Happy Giving Season

One of my favorite responsibilities is being the C.G.O. in my family, the “Chief Giver of gifts Officer.” As the giving season commences I, like you, am beginning to think about what the perfect gift may be for those on my list. You know that feeling you get when you come up with a fabulous…

Needing a Bigger Nail

I volunteered to fail. I keep reminding myself of this, yet rejection hurts, even when you plan on it. I think it would help if I understood why I was being rejected. Yet, these rejections have come in the way of form letters. “Thank you for your submission. After careful consideration, we have decided not…

Surprised by Joy – Go Bananas

It had been an unusually long and busy day for my daughter Natalie. She and her two little girls Hailey and Margo had just hurried home from running errands, so she could fix dinner for her family along with making extra for a sick neighbor’s family. With all the craziness of the day the girls…

Depression’s Darkness and the Summer’s Sun

Sunbeams stream through my window calling me to come out and play. I squint at the invitation, beginning to feel the warmth on my face. Sunny summer days’ promises are endless as you squeeze sand through your toes at the beach, splash in a pool with friends and enjoy some hotdogs off the grill in the…

Changing the World, One Mailbox at a Time

While out of town visiting my mother, I was invited to join her on the patio of a neighbor who was having a little social gathering. 5 Little Things that make a Big Difference for my Mental Health

Rain drops are racing themselves down my kitchen window. I am mesmerized. There seems to be no end to the water being released from the cloudburst. I sit and stare, betting on which streak will win, watching until it disappears, and then I choose another. The rain pours from the sky but I am in slow…

It's Time

It's time to see depression as a real illness, to know it's not a lack of personal effort, it's not a lack of goodness. It is painful, dark, disabling and life threatening.

It’s time to be okay with darkness, to recognize its purpose, to embrace your journey, and to search for and welcome the light.

It’s time to fill the emptiness, to reach out to others, to know you are not alone, And to offer compassion to yourself as you would another.

It’s time to ignore that negative voice in your head, to let go of guilt and shame, to not take counsel from fear, and to place your trust in God.

It’s time to shed those tears, to see the heart space that pain has created for hope to spring up, faith to grow and love to be invited in.

It's time to say, "I matter," to see miracles, to rest, to run to forgive, to express gratitude. To choose joy, to praise life and to become the best you.
